Anyone who has used YouTube (which, let’s be honest, is most of us) has likely had to suffer through too many advertisements that are too long. Well, Vietnam has heard people’s complaints. Starting next month, any and all advertisements in the country will have to let you skip if they’re too long.
What, exactly, does Vietnam consider to be too long? Anything longer than five seconds. “Under the new rules, viewers must be able to skip video advertisements and moving image sequences within five seconds,” Vietnam News reported. So advertisers will need to get very creative with the beginnings of their videos if they want viewers to watch the whole thing. The new rules will take effect Feb. 15.
