What dating app is giving users free gas to help them go on dates?

BLK, the dating app for Black singles, knows that economic stress can be a serious barrier to going on dates. With gas prices hitting four-year highs over the weekend, many people are opting to stay home, so BLK is trying to help out. Starting Wednesday, the platform will give $500 gas gift cards to 10 people who download the app and tag three friends in the social media campaign post. “Dating should not have to compete with the price of a full tank,” said Head of Brand Amber Cooper.

A recent survey from BLK found that 77.6 percent of people feel anxiety about their finances when it comes to dating. With the average cost of a date going up by 12.5 percent this year, 33 percent of people who make less than $50,000 a year say that they don’t date at all anymore. Another 86 percent have paused their dating lives.
