Cybernews recently analyzed 15,212,645,925 passwords to find the most popular trends in 2025 so far. Unsurprisingly, they found that people like to use swear words in their passwords (maybe because we have to make so f*cking many of them and they all have to be so f*cking complicated). Everyone’s favorite profanity in passwords is “ass,” with nearly 27 million containing the word. In second place was “sex” at 5 million, with “f*ck” coming in third at about 4.8 million.
Some of the other highlights in password trends: 24 million users think putting “god” in their password will protect their account, while 20 million went the opposite direction and used “hell.” “Love” is the most popular positive word to appear in a password, with 87 million using it. The three most common U.S. states are “Carolina” (1.9 million), “Dakota” (1.2 million), and “Texas” (1.1 million). “Soccer” is more popular than “football” at 4 million and 3.4 million respectively. “Summer” is everyone’s favorite season in a password with 3.8 million uses, and surprisingly, “Monday” is the most popular day of the week with 0.8 million.
Overall, the team found that only 6 percent of passwords are unique, with default and “lazy” passwords like “password,” “admin” and “123456” still reigning supreme (if you use one of these passwords, this is your cue to change it!).
