As nights out with friends become more expensive and exhausting, a new low-key hangout trend has emerged: admin night. Popularized on TikTok, admin nights see friends getting together at someone’s home to do those administrative life tasks that they’ve been struggling to find time for.
Whether it’s canceling a subscription, scheduling a doctor’s appointment or catching up on personal correspondence, we all have a list in the back of our minds of the things we need to sit down in front of our computers and do but keep putting off. The idea of the admin night is to counter the feeling that we need to always be finding the time to do these things by ourselves, which can only make them feel more daunting (and therefore easier to put off). It turns personal productivity into a social activity, with friends encouraging and helping each other to make progress on their to-do lists.
