Recharging your phone while enjoying the great outdoors can often be a hassle, but Aurea’s Shine 2.0 hopes to make it easier by harnessing a simple natural resource — the wind. Enter the Shine 2.0, the second iteration of the company’s portable wind turbine charger.
The portable turbine packs down to the size of a 1-liter water bottle and weighs only about 3 lbs. When set up, it stands about 6 feet tall and will automatically turn itself into the wind. It can generate 50 watts of power when it catches a 28 mph wind, enough to recharge a smartphone in about 20 minutes. It also contains a 12,000 mAh Li-ion battery that can be used as a power bank.
“Whether you’re exploring off grid or facing a power outage at home, this turbine provides renewable energy to fast charge your devices when you need them most,” said Aurea co-founder Rachel Carr. Currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign, the Shine 2.0 is expected to ship in May 2025 if production goes according to plan.
