Those of us who spend our days parked in front of computers are always trying to find ways to move more, and under-desk treadmills have become a popular way to do that. Treadmills are cumbersome though, and they require a good supply of electricity. Wouldn’t it be so much easier if there was one that was small, relatively lightweight and didn’t need to be plugged in?
That’s the idea behind the Office Walker, which is pretty much exactly what its name suggests. It’s a device designed to make walking at the office a breeze. Designed by Johannes Kettmann, a software developer from Berlin, this minimalist walking pad is powered entirely by the user, making it both very intuitive and very quiet.
It weighs about 55 lbs. and has integrated front wheels that make it relatively easy to move around as needed. It’s 17.7 inches wide and 5.5 inches at its lowest point, so it should work with most standing desks. Kettmann’s original design was made entirely of wood, but testers found it to be too hard, so the production version will be made with soft-touch slats. The Office Walker is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign and units are expected to ship next September.
