What recently caused a major production delay for Toyota?

Answer: Its servers ran out of storage.

It seems cyber attacks aren’t the only thing that can bring a computer system, and everything that relies on it, to its knees. Toyota learned this the hard way at the end of last month when it had to halt production on 28 assembly lines for a full day.

The problem was rooted in the servers, which suddenly became unavailable due to insufficient storage during a maintenance procedure. Backups were also affected, preventing a switchover, so the company had to halt production on certain assembly lines. All 14 of its Japanese manufacturing plants were affected, though things were able to get back up and running the next day.

An estimated 9,000 vehicles were affected by the delay, and Toyota has issued an apology to customers assuring that they will take steps to prevent such an issue from happening again.
