Three backcountry skiers have an Apple Watch to thank for helping them get out of a dangerous situation. The group was skiing in Stevens Pass in Washington state when one of them fell roughly 1,000 feet and sustained a leg injury, leaving them stuck on a “very steep” part of the mountain.
Fortunately, the skier was wearing their Apple Watch, which triggered an Emergency SOS alert. The local Chelan County Sheriff's Office received the alert and dispatched King County Air Support the location sent by the watch. The rescuers found the group just after dark and learned that one of the other skiers had also sustained a leg injury. All three were airlifted to safety, and footage of the rescue was shared on YouTube.
