One of the hallmarks of the fall season is back online, with Fat Bear Week kicking off in Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. Each year, millions of viewers tune in online to cheer on the park’s brown bears as they fatten up on salmon for winter. And of course, everyone gets to vote on which one will be crowned the year’s ultimate fat bear.
Fat Bear Week is taking place this year between Sept. 23-30, and the competition is heating up. Voting takes place on the National Park Service’s Explore website, where you can get to know this year’s competitors before you cast your vote. You can also see them in action as they catch salmon on one of the park’s livestreams. There are eight cameras, including one underwater. Viewers can tune in through the Explore website or on YouTube.
