The astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) recently made some tasty space tacos, and they’ve shared the recipe with the rest of us down here on Earth. All in all, it’s not that much different from a recipe for tacos made down here. The most unique part is perhaps the fact that they grew the chiles on the ISS itself.
These both green and red peppers, the first to be grown in space, came from the Hatch region in New Mexico that is known for its peppers. NASA astronaut Megan McArthur tweeted the results, calling them her “best space tacos yet.” In a statement, NASA described the whole thing in a statement as an “investigation [that] involved microbial analysis to improve understanding of plant-microbe interactions in space and the crew's assessment of flavor, texture and nutrition of the first peppers grown in space.”
