What’s the (fairly obvious) goal of the horror video game “Don’t Scream”?

Answer: Exactly what its title suggests.

Just in time for Halloween, there’s a new scary video game hitting the interwebs. The premise of Don’t Scream is simple — make it through the whole 18 minutes of the game without screaming. If you do, you’ll have to start over.

The game sends you into Pineview Forest to uncover its (probably very scary) secrets. You’ll have to turn on your microphone and calibrate it to detect any screams, gasps or squeaks of fright. You should still be able to speak softly if you need to. The scares you encounter will be totally unpredictable and the clock only ticks when you’re moving, so you can’t just stay in one place to weather the 18 minutes.

Game developers Joure and Joe did admit that shouting might not register as a scared noise, but gaming the system that way would “spoil the thrill.” There’s no full release date yet, but early access on Steam starts Oct. 27.
