Robots are everywhere now, and they’re even graduating from school. Case in point: a humanoid robot recently graduated from a high school in China.

The robot, named Shuang Shuang, was part of the 25th Shuangshi High School graduation ceremony in Fujian. Shuang Shuang marched to the stage in front of seated faculty members, where one of them then got up to greet the robot. After shaking its hand, the teacher placed a paper in the tote bag the robot was carrying. The two then turned and posed for photos.

A video of the event said the robot “received a certificate” during the ceremony, but the school did not release any further details on what Shuang Shuang’s exact role at the school was. Did it attend classes and sit for exams? Or was this more of a symbolic gesture of the evolving relationship between man and machine?
