The largest 3D-printed neighborhood in the world is nearing completion in the suburbs near Austin. Wolf Ranch features 100 homes created by Icon, a 3D-printing firm, and construction firm Lennar, and co-designed by Bjarke Ingels Group.
Icon’s Vulcan printer, which can print a whole house without being moved, is used to create the basic structure of the house. Then construction workers come in for the finishing touches that can’t come from the printer, like the roof, doors and windows. The one-floor homes range from 1,500 square feet to 2,100 square feet depending on the floorplan.
All the Wolf Ranch houses come with a solar panel system and smart home tech, including a smart lock, a Ring video doorbell and a smart thermostat. Icon has currently printed the structures for 98 of the 100 homes and intends to finish the rest in the next few months. Home prices are starting at $400,000.
