Which country apparently likes to ask Alexa to insult them?

Answer: The U.K.

Earlier this month Amazon released the top questions that its smart home assistant Alexa was asked in the U.K. this year, and some of them are a bit surprising. The data was broken down into categories, like “top height questions” and the most common “surprising requests.” In case you were wondering, the most popular height question was “how tall is Lionel Messi?” to which the answer is 5 feet, 7 inches.

The most popular question in the surprising requests category is certainly surprising, but also a bit concerning. Britons are apparently fond of asking their Alexa devices to insult them (literally, the top request was “Alexa, insult me”). The next two most common surprising requests were “Alexa, how old are you?” and “Alexa, will you marry me?”

“From the more meaningful to the mundane and the downright quirky, Alexa’s most-asked questions provide another fascinating snapshot of how customers in the U.K. use Alexa to learn, get help with tasks or ask for some quick-fire entertainment,” said Meryem Tom, Alexa’s U.K. and Ireland manager.
