Which state is the first to allow driver’s licenses in Apple Wallet?

Answer: Arizona.

Arizona-based iPhone owners will soon be able to leave their physical driver’s licenses at home. Apple announced that the Apple Wallet feature can now store a digital copy of your driver’s license, and Arizona will be the first jurisdiction to accept these digital IDs.

To use the feature, users must have an iPhone 8 or newer running iOS 15.4 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 4 or newer with watchOS 8.4. When the ID needs to be shared, Apple says only the information relevant to the situation will be visible, as opposed to a traditional card where everything on it can be seen. Additionally, the information will be sent over an encrypted connection and will require your approval through either Touch ID or Face ID, so no one else can send it.

For now, this will only be the case at TSA checkpoints in Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, but Apple is hoping for wider adoption soon.
