Who investigates when the FBI gets hacked?

Answer: Well, the FBI.

Usually, companies and government organizations contact the FBI when they are hit with a cyber attack. But who does the FBI contact when it’s attacked? The answer is itself.

The agency confirmed on Friday that it had detected malicious activity on its own network and was actively investigating. Details were scant on the ground, but it appears that a computer system used in investigations of images of child sexual exploitation was compromised. The incident was reportedly isolated, but the date of intrusion or the identity of the hackers was not revealed.

“The FBI is aware of the incident and is working to gain additional information,” an agency spokesperson said. “This is an isolated incident that has been contained. As this is an ongoing investigation the FBI does not have further comment to provide at this time.”
