In an effort to raise awareness of the situation that medical professionals are currently facing in Ukraine, former England football captain David Beckham let a doctor in the country take control of his Instagram account for the past week. Dr. Iryna, identified only by her first name, was given access to Beckham’s account so she could share her story and that of her colleagues.

Organized by UNICEF, of which Beckham is a goodwill ambassador, the takeover allowed Dr. Iryna to show his 71.6 million followers how Ukraine’s medical professionals are trying to do their jobs amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of the country. Dr. Iryna is the head of a perinatal center in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city. Throughout the week, Dr. Iryna posted photos, videos and comments about her work environment to Beckham’s account.

In one post on Instagram Stories, she said, “On the first day of the war, all pregnant women and mothers were evacuated to the basement. It was a terrible three hours that we spent together.” She said she is working 24/7 and that she and her team were “probably risking [their] lives” to keep working right now.
