Who wants to see ads in their Apple Maps app?

Answer: Probably no one, but we’re getting them anyway.

Advertisements are truly everywhere these days, even when you’re just trying to navigate. Apple is reportedly planning to start showing ads in Apple Maps when you search.

Businesses will be able to pay to appear at the top of search results within the mapping app, much like they do for other services like Google Maps and Yelp. And because this is 2025, artificial intelligence will of course be involved. Apple says it will use AI to make sure that the ads you see are relevant to you and what you’re searching for.

To allay privacy concerns, Apple will follow the same protocol that it uses for its other services that already have ads like the App Store. It doesn’t gather data from your use of other apps or Internet-connected services, only looking within your Apple account as well as your location and device type.
