Why are people asking ChatGPT to tell them if they’re hot?

Answer: Because it’s a new trend.

As if the Internet alone wasn’t dangerous enough for ruining people’s self-image, they’re now asking artificial intelligence to have a go at it. According to Mashable, the Washington Post has reported on a new trend in which people are asking ChatGPT if they’re hot or not.

Users are uploading photos of themselves to the chatbot and asking it to be brutally honest about their appearance. If it doesn’t think they’re hot enough (whatever that means), then they want it to give them “glow-up” advice to make themselves hotter. Users say it has recommended specific products for everything from hair dyes to Botox treatments.

Artificial intelligence scrapes the Internet to get the information that it uses to make these judgment calls. And as we’ve seen before, the Internet and social media can easily prove damaging to someone’s self-image. AI “just echoes what it’s seen online, and much of that has been designed to make people feel bad about themselves and buy more products,” said Emily Pfeiffer, a commerce analyst for Forrester.
