Why are users inhaling the fumes from their new Steam Decks?

Answer: Apparently, these are just the times we live in.

There’s a new trend going around involving Valve’s OLED Steam Deck gaming device, but it doesn’t have anything to do with actually playing games on it. Rather, it has to do with getting a hit off of the device’s exhaust.

One user reached out to Valve’s support staff to ask if it was safe to inhale the exhaust fumes from the device’s top vent, noting that they found they enjoyed it. Valve unsurprisingly responded that it’s “generally not recommended.” Gizmodo dug a little deeper into potential hazards of taking a hit off your Deck and found that there weren’t any immediate concerns since it uses a relatively simple combination of heat sink, airflow and cooling fan solutions.

The Internet, of course, is enjoying turning this moment into a meme. Some joked that they still wanted that Deck hit despite being advised otherwise, while others said things like “at least we truly lived.” Sounds like it’s to each their own, but you probably shouldn’t do it.
