Answer: No one really knows.

It’s that time of year again — people’s social media feeds are filled with their friends’ Spotify Wrapped results. One of the new features of Wrapped this year is “Sound Town,” in which Spotify tells you which city in the world has music tastes similar to yours. However, an unusually high number of users have reportedly gotten paired with Burlington in Vermont.

A Spotify spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider that this is not a glitch as many initially thought. It just so happens that Burlington is representative of a disproportionately high number of Spotify listeners. Of the platform’s 574 million users, 0.6 percent or about 3.4 million were told that Burlington aligns most with their musical tastes.

It’s interesting to note, though, that Burlington didn’t even get the highest number of users paired with it of the 1,300 Sound Towns. It’s just getting all the recognition on social media for some reason. San Luis Obispo, Calif., got 0.8 percent of users assigned to it, but no one seems surprised by that.
