Why is Tesla suing Sweden?

Answer: Undelivered license plates.

On Monday, electric automaker Tesla filed suit against the postal service and transportation agency of Sweden over undelivered license plates. Workers at the postal service, PostNord, joined a strike against Tesla to demand that it sign a collective bargaining agreement, something the company has been wont to do in the past. This has effectively halted the delivery of license plates for Tesla vehicles in the country.

The lawsuit alleges that the Swedish Transport Agency refused Tesla’s request to pick up the plates itself or send them through a different channel. The agency stated that it has since received an interim decision from a district court ordering it to consent to Tesla’s request to collect the plates itself within seven days, or face fines.

A spokesperson for the Swedish Transport Agency told Engadget on Monday that the agency is still considering how it will respond: “We at the Swedish Transport Agency now need to analyze the announcement and assess what consequences this has for us and what measures might need to be taken to implement the decision. It is currently too early to say exactly what that would mean.”
