The Winter Olympics weren’t the only big live event on Friday. Somehow, the Internet got wind (pun intended) of a livestream of airplanes trying to land in a bad storm, and somehow, it went viral.
It all starts with Storm Eunice, which was pretty much terrorizing the U.K. on Friday with winds up to 122 mph. Wales, southeast and east England were under a “danger to life” red weather warning. As you can probably imagine, this made for less than ideal situations at London’s massive Heathrow Airport, one of the busiest in the world. Many jets had to try multiple times to touch down, and many had to be rerouted because the conditions were so dangerous.
Enter BigJetTV, a YouTube livestream of planes attempting to land at the airport. Hosted by aviation enthusiast Jerry Dyer, the livestream went viral on Friday and at one point had over 200,000 viewers who, for some reason, couldn’t resist the terrifying footage. Dyer’s commentary reportedly really sold the show, with comments like “beers are on me if you bring her in” and “go on, then!” to celebrate a successful landing.
