It works by combining previous crash data with other factors like the road’s traffic patterns and elevation, then adding in reports on the road from the Waze community. That data is then fed to AI that crunches the numbers to determine the most problematic roads on your route. When you get on that road, the app will alert you with a banner message at the bottom of your screen.
Will Waze warn you if you’re headed down a road that’s prone to crashes?
Answer: Yes.

Waze released a new feature this week that will hopefully get you to pay more attention while on the road. The popular navigation app can now alert you when you’re headed down a stretch of road that is prone to crashes.

The app doesn’t get into too much detail, in order to avoid distracting you. All you’ll see is a message that says something like “History of crashes – next 1 mi.” It won’t tell you anything more specific like if there’s an intersection where crashes have occurred or if the incidents involved pedestrians, cyclists or other vehicles.
