City of Burbank, Calif., Wins Network Security Award

City's solution combines intrusion detection and prevention with firewalls to securely connect the city's local area network and its SCADA system

The city of Burbank, Calif., has been awarded "Best Deployment Scenario - 2005" by the Info Security Products Guide, a publication that focuses on security-related case studies and deployment scenarios, for its installation of Juniper Networks firewall and intrusion prevention solutions. This prestigious award recognizes organizations with advanced, ground-breaking network security deployments.

Burbank designed a secure solution utilizing both firewalls and intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) products from Juniper Networks, which gave it the ability to safely connect the city's local area network (LAN) to the independent supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) network. This safely allowed Internet access and remote data acquisition for the SCADA system for such activities as load forecasting.

"We're very pleased we won this award. We chose the Juniper Networks solution based on the scalability and robustness of the products and as a result, our network is secure from intruders and attacks," Perry Jarvis, network operations manager for the city of Burbank, said.
