Federal and provincial officials speak

Riley Information Services held a two-day seminar on health information privacy in Ottawa last month. Presenters included Carman Baggaley, Office of the Federal Privacy Commissioner; Dennis Giokas, Chief Technology Officer, Canada Health Infoway; and Ann Cavoukian, Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. The conference covered issues of consent, patient access to records, what medical doctors can and cannot do under the new Canadian law, the question of fund raising, how research information can or cannot be used if an individual's name can be determined, and more. PowerPoint presentations and other data are available online.
