E-Mail Phishing Attacks on the Rise, Study Says

New study by the Radicati Group Inc. shows the number of unique worldwide phishing attacks is increasing rapidly

The latest study by the Radicati Group Inc., "E-mail Anti-Phishing and Anti-Fraud Market Trends 2004-2008," provides market size, market share, four-year forecasts, technology trends, key solutions, and competitive information for the emerging e-mail anti-phishing and anti-fraud software market.

As online consumers become more educated, phishers have had to become increasingly more sophisticated. "If corporations and consumers do not implement some form of protection against e-mail phishing and Internet fraud attacks, e-mail phishers will continue to tarnish the reputation of organizations both on and offline while simultaneously ruining consumer trust in the Internet and eCommerce," said Sara Radicati, President & CEO of the Radicati Group Inc.

According to the study, the number of unique phishing attacks worldwide will grow an astonishing 115% from an average of 51 unique attacks per month in 2004, to 110 unique attacks per month by 2008.

Despite increasing concerns over online security, the e-mail anti-phishing market is still in its infancy. This study divides the market into two segments: E-mail Anti-Phishing solutions which protect consumers from divulging personal information to criminals, and Anti-Fraud solutions which protect an organization's brand, trademark and Web site from fraud. The total market for both segments is expected to top $202 million in 2004, growing to over $880 million by 2008.
