The system will be installed in over 650 patrol vehicles used by law enforcement agencies within Hamilton County to provide personnel with wireless access to criminal records, dispatch, report writing and messaging applications, and other safety-enhancing tools. The project will encompass both the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, which is spearheading the effort, as well as the city of Cincinnati and 42 other agencies within Hamilton County. It will replace an existing system in use since 1992.
The project seeks to provide Hamilton County users with significant efficiencies, allowing officers to reallocate time to the performance of community oriented policing endeavors. The rollout of the entire project will be conducted in phases over an 18 to 24 month period.
"The ability for law enforcement officers within Hamilton County to more accurately and efficiently complete and generate written reports via an in-vehicle mobile computer, " said Sheriff Simon L. Leis Jr. , "and then to submit those reports wirelessly is expected to save thousands of dollars and man hours and help keep our communities safer by allowing the officers more time to engage in community oriented policing activities."
