Iowa's Top Computer Criminalist to Depart in July

The resignation means Iowa's crime lab has no one certified to recover evidence from computer hard drives.

Iowa's top computer cop has accepted a new job, which threatens to leave state detectives without anyone qualified to root out computer-related crimes.

Doug Elrick, a criminalist in the state crime lab, confirmed Tuesday that he is scheduled to leave Iowa in July to join Digital Intelligence, a Wisconsin company that builds machines and provides training for forensic computer specialists.
