"We recognize the importance of keeping our families updated with the latest technology tools and resources," said a HUD representative.
"However, it's vital to provide them with the knowledge to keep their online experiences safe. Neighborhood Networks is proud to join i-SAFE in making it easy and convenient for families to learn about Internet safety."
Kicking off the partnership, i-SAFE will conduct i-PARENT trainings to educate Neighborhood Networks parents and guardians about Internet safety through i-SAFE's Virtual Training Academy(http://vta.isafe.org) on Aug. 2, 2006. The Virtual Training Academy kick-off training event will be held during "Neighborhood Networks Week," which recognizes the vital role neighbors play in strengthening communities. Neighborhood Networks centers in 14 states and the District of Columbia will be participating in this live, online Virtual Training Academy kick-off training event.
"We are excited to join Neighborhood Networks in building safer communities and online communities," said i-SAFE president and CEO Teri Schroeder. "Protecting children from online crimes and victimization requires a community-wide commitment; our partnership promotes Internet safety among families, friends, colleagues, and neighbors."
According to a recent National Assessment Center (NAC) survey of 52,000 students, 32.6% of kids do not discuss Internet safety with their parents. i-SAFE provides busy parents with the tools and training needed to help educate and protect their children online through the Virtual Training Academy and i-LEARN Online (http://ilearn.isafe.org). These two i-SAFE Internet safety programs are available anywhere through any computer with Internet access.
The Virtual Training Academy offers live, interactive online training for those who prefer attending sessions without leaving their homes or Neighborhood Networks centers. i-LEARN Online is even more flexible than the Virtual Training Academy -- it's an "on-demand" Internet safety education system that allows users to be trained at any time.
