The new solution will significantly enhance Ogden City's ability to quickly and accurately identify crime scene prints and, in turn, bolster the city's crime fighting efforts.
The system will be one component in a larger solution that will incorporate a facial image recognition system and a data warehouse designed to store all relevant information. Additionally, Ogden City law enforcement will receive NEC Mobile ID devices, which will provide wireless access to the system throughout the Ogden area.
"Identifying suspects is a significant public safety problem not restricted to a single community or jurisdiction; simply put: Suspects don't readily want to tell us who they are. Use of AFIS and facial recognition will provide officers quick reliable information, which allows the positive identification of suspects," said Chief Jon Greiner, Ogden City Police Department. "Ogden was recently ranked among the top 10 cities in reducing their crime rate; as we build out our fingerprint system and leverage our integration with other regional databases, we fully anticipate even greater success, and we are pleased that NEC is one of our primary allies."
