"The Coalition Summit for IPv6 will establish the global effort for the New Internet," says Dr. Charles L. Lynch, Chief of the IPv6 Transition Office at DISA (the Defense Information Systems Agency), which has been tasked to spearhead the transition of the entire U.S. Department of Defense to the New Internet standard.
"There is a great deal of synergy to be gained by the U.S. and its coalition partners through synchronizing our IPv6 transition efforts and defining our way ahead together," according to Dr. Lynch. "IT industry leaders, ISPs, and leading international corporations will have a chance to meet with DoD leaders to coordinate plans and form strategic partnerships."
Presentations, panels and live demonstrations at the conference will illustrate the vast improvements in security, multimedia transmission, and mobile and wireless online operations that are possible with the New Internet, formally known as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), which is slated to replace the existing Internet (version 4, in use since 1983). The New Internet-based networking of billions of addressable devices will enable Net Centric Operations for Homeland Defenders and Enterprise-Centric Operations for global business executives, with myriad new commercial products and services, for the U.S. and its defense and trading partners.
The Coalition Summit for IPv6 is being held in coordination with the DoD in Reston, VA, within easy commuting distance of the Pentagon and international Embassy offices. In addition to the three-day conference, the 23rd of May features an introductory tutorial to the technology and business aspects of the New Internet, as well as a review of the most important security aspects -- both advantages and challenges.
