Topspin Delivers Open Solution for Utility Computing

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Topspin Communications has announced general availability of its VFrame server virtualization software suite, which enables end-user customers, system vendor OEMs, and software partners to program Topspin Server Switches with the policies necessary to provision virtual servers on demand.

The software allows customers to choose whatever industry-standard servers, storage and management tools they prefer and seamlessly integrate these components together across Topspin's standards-based server switching infrastructure.

"With VFrame technology, Topspin customers can now deploy new applications in a fraction of the time, re-purpose servers instantly from one function to another, and respond rapidly to server or network failures," said Ross Schibler, chief technology officer at Topspin. "This contributes to lower management costs and dramatically reduced downtime."

To ensure open, integrated solutions, Topspin has been working with various software partners with the management and provisioning tools that make up the server virtualization eco-system, including: Opsware, Oracle, Platform Computing, Qlusters and VMware.

Topspin products and technology are integral parts of solutions offered by leading system vendors including HP, Dell, IBM, NEC, RLX and Sun.
