State leaders are making impressive gains confronting some of their most difficult technology challenges, but other challenges remain, including securing emerging technologies, managing privacy, reinventing the workforce and more, according to Government Technology’s newly released guide,“From Talk to Action: Best Practices and Lessons Learned from the Digital States Survey.”
Experts from the Center for Digital Government analyzed responses to the 2018 Digital States Survey from all 50 states to uncover best practices and lessons learned. The guide unpacks how states are maturing their cyber security strategies, improving user experience, reinventing their workforces, taking a smarter approach to cloud and transforming procurement.
“States are making headway by modernizing aging IT systems, protecting sensitive information from cyberattacks and ensuring citizens can interact with government in better ways,” said Teri Takai, executive director for the Center for Digital Government. “However, at the same time they are grappling with new issues – not all of which are technological – including election security, the opioid crisis and marijuana legislation. They will also have to confront disruptions to traditional workforce practices at all levels.”
The guide also reveals five top challenges of tomorrow identified by survey respondents, including ensuring privacy, covering broadband’s ‘last mile’ and coping with workforce disruption.
