The project’s study has finished its first phase and is now in its second, focused on examining potential social and environmental effects along the possible route, according to a Wednesday news release from the council.
The open house will include video and presentation boards about proposed technology for the rail and the recommended route. The preferred route is “generally located along Interstate Highway 30 between downtown Dallas and downtown Fort Worth, with a stop in the Arlington Entertainment District,” the news release reads.
The director of transportation for the council, Michael Morris, has expressed interest in linking the line to a proposed rail connecting Houston and Dallas.
The long-planned Texas Central project touts a less than 90-minute trip between Houston in Dallas, but opponents have been skeptical it will be completed and have concerns about the project, including costs to taxpayers and land rights. Texas Central and Amtrak announced a potential partnership earlier this month.
“The high-speed rail line being studied in North Texas would provide connections with local transportation systems and link directly to future high-speed services such as the planned Dallas-to-Houston high-speed rail line,” the Wednesday news release reads.
