GoMobile allows riders to pay their fares via the GoMobile app, using a reloadable GoMobile card, a bank card or mobile wallet, in addition to cash. The more riders use GoMobile, the cheaper the rides: the first two rides will be the standard $2, the third will only be $0.50, and all subsequent rides will be free, maxing out the daily total at $4.50 no matter how many times you ride public transit, according to HRT.
In addition to the $4.50 daily cap for fares, GoMobile users will only be charged a maximum of $70 per month.
Riders can buy GoMobile cards and add funds to their virtual cards at new ticket vending machines that HRT has installed at all light rail stations, bus transit centers and ferry docks.
HRT announced GoMobile was fully available on Tuesday.
“We have transformed the way our customers access and experience transit,” HRT President and CEO William E. Harrell said in a news release. “This investment in technology and infrastructure, following extensive planning and development, gives riders more choices and the best possible fares, any time of day, on three modes of travel.”
The GoMobile app is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play. Users will need to create an account with their email address or phone number in order to create a virtual card that they can add funds to with their credit or debit card.
To use the virtual card on a bus or ferry, riders can hold their phone screen up to the blue and yellow scanner until they hear a beep. When riding light rail, you can scan your screen at one of the fare validators on each platform before boarding and will be asked to show the attendee your digital GoMobile card.
Riders can now also use their bank cards or mobile wallets to pay their fares without downloading the GoMobile app by tapping the validator the same way they do at stores.
The GoMobile app includes features like up‑to‑the‑minute travel information, a trip planning tool with real‑time details and fare information, an interactive system map, live views of arriving vehicles, as well as alerts, notifications and other customized features, according to HRT.
