The Colorado Digital Service (CDS), the team’s official title, is modeled after the United States Digital Service, launched to resuscitate healthcare.gov when it failed to successfully facilitate health insurance enrollment. Small groups of engineers, designers and product managers will collaborate with state employees to create and implement user-friendly digital solutions, according to a press release.
“I encourage the incredible software developers, designers and product people we have here in Colorado to give back through a tour of service,” Polis said in prepared statement. “My goal is to transform state government services through innovative accessible technology solutions, and these digital service experts will help us along our journey.”
State staff with policy knowledge, subject-matter expertise and familiarity with bureaucratic processes will work alongside IT experts to deploy Agile methodologies, an input-driven and high-adaptive approach to software development, to solve Colorado's key technical challenges, the release states.
“The Colorado Digital Service is an opportunity for tech talent to put their skills to work for the state they love, solving problems and building great solutions for our residents during a tour of service,” said CIO and OIT Executive Director Theresa Szczurek.
Software developers, designers and product managers interesting in a “digital tour of service” in Colorado are encouraged to apply online, the release states.
