On June 14, Mayor Richard Irvin announced a new innovation team that will be led by Adrienne Holloway and Michael Pegues.
Holloway, who is leaving her position as assistant professor of public service at DePaul University, will be Aurora's first chief innovation officer, and Pegues, the former vice president of information technology for global financial services company Morgan Stanley, will serve on Holloway's innovation team as the new chief information officer.
Irvin said he felt the two were instrumental to his effort in taking "Aurora to the next level."
Pegues will be responsible for the management, oversight and direction of the IT Department, including the Management Information Systems Division and the Police Technical Services Division, which is composed of public safety and the 911 center. Former Chief Technology Officer Ted Beck will collaborate with Pegues as the city’s new chief information security officer.
Both Holloway and Pegues felt driven to accept the positions on the basis of social responsibilty. Holloway told the Aurora Beacon News that she felt it was her turn to do what she taught her students to do, and Pegues said he knew Aurora as a different place when he was growing up, so he wants to be an African-American role model for people in the city today.
"After working with Dr. Holloway on a number of significant projects, I know she is clearly focused on strategic planning and effective results," Irvin said in the press release. "As she works to enhance our strengths in Aurora through innovative ideas and practices, her expertise will be instrumental in connecting all facets of our community and driving innovation throughout the city."
The innovation team will build and better ways to use technology to the city's benefit, specifically to modernize services at City Hall.
Pegues starts his new duties this week, according to the release, and Holloway begins on Monday, June 19.
