The CIO of the New York City Police Department, the founder of the nonprofit Code for America and the mayor of Chattanooga, Tenn., are among 25 individuals and groups honored Thursday, March 1, by Government Technology for their contribution to public-sector innovation.
All are members of Government Technology’s Top 25 for 2012. The annual award program has recognized nearly 300 people since its inception in 2002. Recipients are chosen based on their record of using technology to solve problems, improve citizen services and transform internal operations.
The 2012 Top 25 includes technology professionals from state and local government and higher education, along with elected officials, emergency managers and representatives of innovative nonprofits and private companies. Their achievements include deploying ultra-fast citywide broadband, leading multi-state cloud computing initiatives and using collaborative, open source software development to save millions of dollars.
