Four states have contracted Deloitte, one of the world’s biggest accounting and consulting firms, to update and integrate their Medicaid systems with the company’s Medicaid data analytics platform.

According to a news release Dec. 11, Virginia, Wyoming, Ohio and Montana have been working closely with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to create a road map for transitioning their legacy systems to a modular, interoperable solution. In doing so, they each chose Deloitte to be their systems integration contractor, and Deloitte’s cloud-based Medicaid Enterprise Solution (MES) HealthInteractive Platform as their solution.

Deloitte’s website says HealthInteractive is a software-as-a-service platform built on the IBM Cloud and includes application programming interfaces (APIs) that help current and future system modules communicate. Specifically, it can track a client's trends and performance to analyze impacts of various programs and interventions, identify problems with service delivery and care coordination, and uncover sources of waste, fraud or abuse.

“As we developed our MES HealthInteractive Platform, we recognized that states implementing new CMS guidelines need a more flexible and extensible system,” said Brian Erdahl, solution architect and principal with Deloitte Consulting. “We designed this platform specifically for the new modular MES implementation life cycle, helping guide our clients’ integration efforts and allowing them to accelerate their implementations.”

IBM Cloud North America General Manager Stephen Smith said the platform should help states increase agility, security and performance of their Medicaid services.

“Adopting a cloud strategy can help states accelerate the transformation of Medicaid management information systems from large and monolithic systems into modular, interoperable solutions,” he said in a statement.

Deloitte is an established firm in this area, having worked with Medicaid and commercial health systems for 40 years, according to the press release. It's been involved with some of the largest and most complex public-sector initiatives from integrated eligibility systems to health insurance exchanges and health information exchanges.
