City of Reno to Receive National Award for Performance Management

For collection of performance data in 13 areas of city services, reporting of performance data to the public through budgets and newsletters, and data verification efforts to ensure reliability.

The ICMA Center for Performance Measurement will present the city of Reno with its highest award for the city's use of performance information in its management. This is the fifth year in a row the city of Reno has achieved the highest award, the "Certificate of Distinction," since the awards began in 2002.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, the city of Reno and 30 other local governments will receive a "Certificate of Distinction" during ICMA (International City/County Management Association) annual conference. Reno City Manager Charles McNeely is expected to receive the award on behalf of the city.

Reno remains in the top 10 percent of the 240 cities and counties participating in the ICMA Center for Performance Measurement which began in 1994.

The criterion includes the collection of performance data in 13 areas of city services, reporting of performance data to the public through budgets and newsletters, and data verification efforts to ensure reliability. Communities receiving the highest level, "Certificate of Distinction" have made even greater strides in incorporating performance measurement into the management of their jurisdictions by using performance data in strategic planning and management decision-making efforts.

The city of Reno will be joined by the communities of Henderson, North Las Vegas and Washoe county for recognition in the state of Nevada.
