Google Launches Site to Connect People With Food Providers

Google
(TNS) — Finding food pantries, community hunger programs and school lunch programs just got easier with the launch of Google’s new site called “Find Food Support.”

Google said it is trying to combat the hunger crisis that was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and economic fallout.

“Google is using its technology to launch a new resource hub that will help people find food support in one place.

The site features an interactive Google Maps locator tool that people can use to find their nearest food bank, food pantry or school lunch program pickup site, as well as resources to help people find food support, such as state-by-state benefit information, hotlines and resources for specific communities like seniors and kids.”

Emily Ma, head of Food for Good at Google, said, “The site features a Google Maps locator tool to help you find the nearest food bank, food pantry or school lunch program pickup site in your community.

We worked with No Kid Hungry, FoodFinder and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to capture 90,000 places with free food support across 50 states — with more locations to come.”

Jack Griffin, found and CEO of FoodFinder said there are 7 million more Americans facing food insecurity now than before the pandemic.

“We have a lot of work left to do to eliminate COVID-related hunger, but that’s why we’re so excited to contribute to this initiative and connect families in need anytime and anywhere to the local programs that can get them help.”
