Indiana BMV Launches Electronic Check Payments for Online Plate Renewals

In addition to paying by credit card, Indiana motorists now also have the option of paying by electronic check

Yesterday the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced that in addition to paying by credit card, Indiana motorists now also have the option of paying by electronic check at www.bmvexpress.IN.gov.

"Giving customers more options and greater convenience when doing business with the BMV is the most important thing we do," said Indiana BMV Commissioner Joel Silverman. "We want more folks to know about and take advantage of the online renewal process."

Last summer, the Bureau dropped the 50-cent convenience fee for online renewals. Now, with the addition of electronic check payments, the BMV - and ultimately, taxpayers - will save money, too. The cost of processing online checks is significantly lower than credit card fees.

Already this year, more than 108,700 license plates have been renewed online. More than 3,700 electronic check transactions have been conducted in the two weeks since the new payment option was made available.

The BMV's internet renewal service allows motorists to renew multiple plates during one session, and registration confirmation and plate stickers will be mailed to customers within 48 hours.

Also available at www.bmvexpress.IN.gov is QuickQuote, which estimates the cost of registering and titling vehicles and watercraft in Indiana, along with license branch locations, printable forms, BMV fee schedules, and identification requirements for driver licenses.
