"What used to take a considerable amount of time and a trip to Little Rock will now take just minutes from an office or home, " said Mike Munns, motor carrier administrator for the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. "We are very pleased with this new efficient process."
Arkansas operates under the provisions of the International Registration Plan for the registration and titling of motor carrier vehicles. The IRP renewal service is available for December 2004 registrations. The process includes being able to make a secure payment online by electronic check or Visa, MasterCard, or Discover credit cards. Payments are processed through the Arkansas.gov secure payment server, and proof of payment can be printed immediately.
The IFTA service calculates mileage and fuel usage by jurisdictions traveled, for quarterly reporting, which saves hours of tedious work for motor carrier administrators. The system automatically submits data and allows carriers to print confirmation and send in payments. IFTA returns are due on the last day of the month following the end of each quarterly tax period.
Both services are part of a new trucking portal (www.trucking.arkansas.gov) that will continue to add new services in 2005. Temporary operating authority and supplemental applications for weight changes, added jurisdictions, lost credential replacements, and addition and deletion of vehicles are among the services that will be introduced next year.
