Portland, Ore., Transportation Authority Enhances Security of Mass Transit System
Networked video cameras to watch passenger platforms and maintenance facilities
The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) is deploying a networked video solution to enhance security of certain portions of its rail system. TriMet is a municipal corporation that provides public transportation in the Portland, Ore., metro area.
TriMet operates a comprehensive transit network including a 44-mile, 64-station light rail system and 93 bus lines that facilitate almost 300,000 passenger trips in the Portland area every weekday. The video surveillance will enable TriMet to enhance security of its rail system by monitoring certain passenger platforms and remote maintenance facilities from its central operations center.
