Seamless Handover Solution for Fixed Line Carriers, Extending Business Services to Mobile Users

FirstHand Mobile Console to leverage Sylantro Synapps server, providing converged enterprise mobility and voice call continuity services.

FirstHand Technologies, an innovator in transforming smart phones and dual-mode Wi-Fi/Cellular devices into full-featured business telephones in fixed-mobile converged networks, and Sylantro Systems Corp., the leading supplier of feature servers for hosted VoIP services in carrier networks, today announced that the FirstHand Mobile Console will be fully integrated with the Sylantro Synapps Server platform, enabling carriers without wireless properties to deliver full-featured mobile calling and Voice Call Continuity services to users' mobile phones. The phones can be operated in both Wi-Fi and cellular modes and can fully leverage hosted business services from either network.

The combined Sylantro and FirstHand solution enables fixed line carriers to extend the services of their business and residential customers to their mobile devices transparently from any wireless carrier infrastructure (i.e. Home Location registers, wireless intelligent network services, etc.). As a result, fixed line carriers have a unique opportunity to provide their customers with a rich variety of value-added services as part of a fixed and mobile solution, consolidating the relationship with their users which reduces mobile churn and increases their top line contribution.

The FirstHand Mobile Console's network-aware, unified GUI and support for single-number calling consolidates both Wi-Fi and cellular identities to provide a seamless end-user experience over both networks. The FirstHand Mobile Console utilizes the interfaces on the Synergy Synapps Server to allow users to access the same functionality from their Windows Mobile device as they currently enjoy on their desktop, including outbound calling from either the Wi-Fi or cellular domain, leveraging their business phone services, caller ID based on their business number, short digit dialing, ad-hoc mobile conferencing, and more. They can access these services seamlessly in Wi-Fi and cellular domains, as well as roam between enterprise Wi-Fi, cellular, and public Wi-Fi networks.

"I am very excited to announce this agreement with Sylantro, a market leader in hosted VoIP services with a strong vision to empower its customers with Enterprise Mobility," said James LaPalme, vice president, sales and marketing, FirstHand Technologies. "By integrating the FirstHand Mobile Console with the Sylantro Synapps best-in-class platform, enterprises will benefit from increased user productivity levels, faster customer response times, unified messaging, seamless mobility, and more."

"For the first time, using the FirstHand Mobile Console, our fixed line customers will have the ability to fully extend their services to enterprise users with mobile devices as well as providing Voice Call Continuity," said Frank Salm, vice president of marketing, Sylantro Systems. "Users will be able to hold a conversation or conference call over their Wi-Fi network and as they leave it, continue the call over their cellular network with no drop in the conversation. As they approach a Wi-Fi hotspot, the user can switch back to Wi-Fi from cellular."
