Wi-Fi System Selected for City-Wide Broadband Service in Osseo, Minnesota

Local Economic Development Board funds deployment of new, city-wide wireless network to attract developers and businesses.

NextWave Wireless Inc., has announced that its GO Networks subsidiary is providing its MBW 2000 series micro cell and MBW 1000 series pico cell Wi-Fi base stations to Unplugged Cities, a full-service Internet technology provider, for deployment in Osseo, Minnesota. The GO Networks equipment is being deployed by Unplugged Cities to provide high-speed, city-wide Wi-Fi broadband service to residents, businesses and visitors of Osseo. Funding for the project is being provided by the city's Economic Development Authority. The new system is expected to be fully operational by the middle of December this year.GO Networks' outdoor Wi-Fi products and innovative xRFTM adaptive beamforming, smart antenna technology is enabling Unplugged Cities to provide enhanced Wi-Fi services at a fraction of the cost of previous generation Wi-Fi solutions. By utilizing GO Networks' advanced technology, Unplugged Cities is providing enhanced coverage inside and outside of downtown buildings, overcoming line-of-sight obstacles presented by the thick foliage found in the Osseo downtown area, and reducing costs by delivering high-quality service with fewer antennas and base stations.

"We feel that the deployment of GO Networks technology by Unplugged Cities further solidifies Osseo's ability to lead the way as a municipal technology leader," said Kevin Rebman, president of Osseo's Economic Development Authority. "Funding this initiative and finding the best technology solution supports our community with an affordable Internet service that we believe will fuel our economic development engine. Developers tell us that our unique position as a wireless-friendly community within the Twin Cities area gives us a competitive advantage in attracting new businesses to our city."

Based in nearby Minneapolis, Unplugged Cities is a full service Internet technology provider that manages, engineers, supports, tests and provides sales and marketing functions for city-wide wireless networks. After completing a city-wide network analysis to determine the stringent performance requirements for the proposed Osseo network, Unplugged Cities selected GO Networks for its ability to deliver robust, cost-effective wireless solutions that can easily scale to accommodate future network needs. In addition, the compact size of GO Networks' advanced MBW 2000 series micro cell and MBW 1000 series pico cell Wi-Fi base stations allows systems to be easily mounted on existing street lights, traffic signals and buildings and seamlessly blend in with the environment -- a very important factor for the City Council of Osseo and Unplugged Cities in their selection of a wireless technology provider.

"From Rio de Janeiro, to Zurich, to Osseo, Minnesota, our carrier-class Wi-Fi solutions are designed to deliver outstanding indoor and outdoor performance and superior economics for our customers -- no matter what the environmental or geographic challenges are," said Oz Leave, president and CEO of GO Networks.
