Tonga Volcano Eruption and Tsunami

Just when we thought we knew everything.

Perhaps it is old news at this point, but the undersea eruption of a volcano near Tonga is leading researchers to rethink what they thought they knew, see Why the Tongan eruption will go down in the history of volcanology

Out here on the West Coast of the United States it has also given many people pause to think about the impacts of a tsunami from such an eruption and also to reexamine how our alert and warning systems worked or didn't work.

Certainly we need to do more to reach the maritime community when it comes to alerts and warnings for tsunamis and all other manner of hazards.
