(TNS) - Four more victims of a powerful typhoon that pummeled the northern Philippines have been recovered Sunday bringing to 14 the total number of dead, officials said.

Three bodies of miners were dug out Sunday from a landslide in Mankayan town in Benguet province, about 200 kilometers north of Manila, provincial Gov. Nestor Fongwan said, while another fatality from drowning was recovered in nearby Kalinga province.

Fongwan said they are confirming reports that at least a dozen other miners were still buried in the landslide in the village of Taneg.

Fongwan also appealed to authorities to speed up the restoration of power in their province, which has been without electricity since the typhoon struck late Friday as transmission lines and electric posts were toppled.

He also appealed for more assistance to residents affected by Typhoon Goni.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said more than 32,000 people were forced to flee their homes at the height of Goni's fury, while nearly 1,000 houses were destroyed.

Twelve of the fatalities were buried by landslides, one was pinned down by a fallen tree, and another one drowned after being swept away by rampaging flood waters, the agency added.

A total of 47 roads remained impassable either due to flooding or landslides, the NDRRMC said.

The NDRRMC also issued flood alert to 19 towns and cities in the lowland province of Pangasinan, about 150 kilometers south of Manila, due to the release of water from a nearby dam.

The agency advised authorities to conduct pre-emptive evacuations, especially along riverbanks.

Typhoon Goni was steadily moving away from the Philippines, with its center was last spotted at 430 kilometers north-east of Basco town in the northernmost island-province of Batanes, the weather bureau said Sunday.
