I have to say that it has taken longer than I expected for a new COVID-19 variant to show up. This one comes, we believe, from South Africa and it has been given the name omicron after another letter of the Greek alphabet.

It is another example confirming what epidemiologists have said all along. We here in the United States will not be safe from future mutations until the majority of the world is vaccinated. I think Africa is at about 6 percent vaccination right now.
